We are a retired couple who lived on the north coast of NSW for over 40 years. In 2017 we fell in love with Tasmania and relocated to Bicheno. Early in our retirement, we did a lot of overseas travelling, mainly in Europe but especially in France. However now we are staying closer to home and looking to explore more of Australia and New Zealand.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Bicheno is a tiny unspoilt seaside village of the spectacular Tasmanian coast. It lies between the Douglas-Apsley National Park and Freycenet Peninsula. and is easily accessible from major airports at Launceston (2 hours drive) or Hobart (2 1/2 hours away).
Bicheno enjoys a micro climate with mostly sunny days and relatively mild temperatures. You can swim, fish, snorkel, dive and kayak in the clear water of Waub's Bay or surf at Redbill Beach when there's a break.. Its natural attractions include wild life such as fairy penguins, seals and whales.
Wineries abound and Bicheno is a great base for exploring them, along with nearby spots such as Freycenet National Park and Wineglass Bay.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
National parks and wineries abound. The Tasmanian pinot noirs are gaining a great reputation. Coles Bay, the Freycenet Peninsula and Wineglass Bay make wonderful day trips.
In Bicheno itself, you can take penguin and other wildlife tours. The glass bottomed boat at The Gulch provides a chance to view the local marine life and to learn about the area's history. Walk to the top of Whalers Lookout for panoramic views.
