Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We live on a friendly residential block of single-family homes about a 15 minute walk from the Evanston business district where you will find great restaurants, bars and cafes, a 12-theatre cinema, fun shopping, and a public library. There are lively street festivals throughout the summer in downtown Evanston and along the Evanston lakefront. Evanston has nice public beaches on Lake Michigan a 20-minute walk away where you can rent small sailboats, kayaks or paddle boards. We have 3 adult bikes available to get to all of these nearby locations in even less time and there is a lakefront bike and walking path to follow the shores of Lake Michigan. There is a great playground for kids a block away. Also in Evanston is Northwestern University, which hosts musical and theatre events as well as lectures for the public.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Downtown Chicago is 30 minutes away by train (a15 minute walk from the house). Chicago is a fantastic city where you will find 5 star restaurants to inexpensive ethnic cuisine from around the world and everything in between. Downtown has world-class museums of natural history, science and art as well as the "Magnificent Mile" for shopping. There are a multitude of ethnic neighborhoods that are fun to explore (such as Mexican Pilsen, Indian Devon Avenue, Chinatown) as well as trendy neighborhoods. If you're into spectator sports you can easily see the Cubs or White Sox (Chicago's baseball teams) play. Neighborhood and music festivals are plentiful all over Chicago, as well as nightclubs and bars, featuring Chicago Blues, Jazz, Gospel or Latin music. Six Flags Great America, a well known amusement park, is about 45 minutes drive away. Chicago is also a premiere city for theatre.
