Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Our home is located in the Central Coast wine region of California, about 250 miles (4 hour drive) north of Los Angeles and 250 miles (4 hour drive) south of San Francisco. Our two-level home was custom built in 2005 and is 2,800 square feet. There are five bedrooms (3 double beds and 1 queen in the upstairs rooms and 1 king in the downstairs master bedroom), 2 full and two half baths. Our home is on six acres (about 1 acre developed), on a hillside surrounded by hundreds of old California oak trees with forever views on a clear day over the California countryside. Upscale appliances, lots of patio space and custom designed landscape (Christy is a landscape architect). Large family style dining table accommodates 8-10 people. 42" TV in upstairs family room minimizes distractions/noise in the downstairs living area. Parking for 6 cars. We have no pets and do not allow pets inside.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Rural setting about a 10 minute drive from the nearest shopping/conveniences. Our driveway is fairly steep and winds about 1000 feet down from the main road, but the main road is great for walking, cycling, or running. The house is surrounded by hundreds of old oak trees so it has a very secluded, country like feeling. Only one neighbor is in our immediate view and he is friendly and quiet. Primary views face away from the neighbor and stretch for miles over valleys and hills. All the homes in the neighborhood sit on about 1 to 5 acre lots (we are on 6 acres). You definitely need a car (we can share ours) and there are bus stops 10 minutes away. Train station in San Luis Obispo (25 minute drive) has trains to Santa Barbara, Los Angeles or San Diego. Train station in Paso Robles (20 minute drive) has trains to San Francisco.

Attractions

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

Head north to Paso Robles wine country with over 300 wineries and is a short 30-40 minute drive depending on your destination. The beaches of Morro Bay and Cayucos are 20 minutes west and another 20 minutes from there up the coast you can tour famed Hearst Castle. To the south is Pismo Beach and Avila Beach (usually warmer and 40 minutes from our house). San Luis Obispo is the next nearest destination city (25 minutes south) with nice restaurants and shopping and one of the biggest farmers markets in the country (produce, food vendors and music every Thursday). We drive to work there every day so its an easy drive for a night out. World class golf at Hunter Ranch (30 minutes away) and Cypress Ridge or Monarch Dunes (both 45 minutes way), and plenty of fun, more affordable, popular courses like sea-side Morro Bay 20 minutes away (only $15 walking in the mid to late afternoon). Hiking and mountain biking trails nearby as well as a zipline course. Two good sized lakes within an hour for boating. Santa Barbara is only two hours south for an easy day trip, music, shopping and more beaches along the way. Or day trip to Monterey only two hours north with Big Sur in between. Long day trips or overnight stays include Sequoia National Park with it's giant redwood trees (about 3 hours away) and Yosemite National Park (3.5 hours away).

Our Preferences

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules

We welcome you to invite guests to help you enjoy your visit. Most of the outside planting is on a low maintenance drip and sprinkler system but we would ask you to water something if it is looking dry for some unknown reason.
