We love to spend time together as a couple and now we have an almost one year-old daughter who brings us much delight. We love to travel and we so appreciate the hospitable people around the globe who offer their homes so young families like ours can afford to travel even when the family grows. My husband Oscar, an accountant, is in his early 40s and I (former high school biology teacher, now TEFL teacher) am in my late 30s. We are very considerate and respectful people. Oscar is a Peruvian/Spanish national and I am a South African/British national.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Our family home welcomes you to enjoy one of the prettiest small cities in the country as well as the beautiful nature surrounds close by. There are three bedrooms and the second lounge (TV room) can be used as additional sleeping quarters. The kitchen has been recently renovated. The lounge leads out onto the garden where you can have barbecues or outdoor lunches. The main bedroom leads onto a veranda in front of the pool. At the back of the garden is a large and separate vegetable garden - feel free to help yourself to whatever is growing in season. We have many books and DVDs and also satellite TV. There are two front entrances - to the kitchen and the lounge - and another small garden in the front where you are welcome to throw your breadcrumbs and feed our little visiting birds.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Our neighbourhood is quiet and peaceful though just a few minutes´ drive and you will reach shops. Best of all it is walking distance from a nature reserve where you can get as close up to the wildlife as you dare (zebra, giraffe, monkey, buck). Our neighbourhood is set in a small valley so the roads curve attractively up and down leisurely slopes. It is also walking distance from a pleasant cafe which serves excellent coffee and there is also a play area for children!
Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
From our house it is a 15 minute walk or shorter cycle ride to ¨Bisley Nature Reserve¨ where you can see a number of animals close up including giraffe, zebra and buck. We are just 12 minutes´ drive from the city centre where the impressive Victorian city hall hosts regular classical concerts. There is no shortage of quaint cafes in and around the city and many are in garden or nature settings. Just 40 minutes´ drive to the north you will enter the charming farming lands known as The Midlands Meander. Spend a delightful day driving the pleasant country roads and making stops to sample local produce, visit the many varied home industries dotted all over, and relax at one of the fine boutique hotels - but take your tourist map because some are hidden-from-sight gems along lesser-known roads. Many people from all over SA make the effort to visit and even honeymoon in this green, hilly paradise - and it is right on our doorstep. Durban beachfront is just 45 minutes away and of course, do visit the famous and majestic Drakensberg mountains - just 1.5 hours by car. Pietermaritzburg has a beautiful botanical garden and several smaller (and free) public gardens. We have our own small airport, which is a 3 minute drive away from our house.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
Just treat our house as you would your own and do not hesitate to contact us about anything. We will leave more specific house instructions (e.g rubbish collection days etc) in our home. If you need to smoke, please smoke outside and use an ash-tray. While pets may be appropriate, please let´s discuss this in more detail as your pet would need to get on with our two friendly dogs. We´d prefer pets to stay outside.
