Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Our home is in the quiet Priestfield neighbourhood on the Southside of the city centre. There is a local convenience store just around the corner as well as a shopping centre with supermarket another 10-minutes walk down the road. There are pleasant walks to be taken locally in the grounds of Prestonfield House or the Commonwealth Cemetary. Only a five-minute walk from the house is Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat, which you can see from our upper storey windows. The Park has many running and walking trails, north down the hill, for example, to Holyrood Palace and the new Parliament, or south past the loch to the Sheep's Heid pub in Duddingston Village (recently frequented by the Queen!) The Royal Commonwealth Pool and Gym facilities are also a couple of minutes walk up the road, with the Salisbury Arms restaurant, bar and beer garden opposite.
The bus stop at the end of the street has frequent services into the city centre/downtown where you can explore the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the Old and New Towns. The bus ride to the centre is 10mins but the walk via the Meadows and University area is only 30mins.
