Also our Govt telling us we must return to NZ ASAP! Lagos was a delightful area. Penny and Bruce's apartment is in the marina with wonderful views and excellent eateries nearby by. We were able to easily walk to town and the supermarket. Thank you both for exchanging with us. Our very best wishes for future travel when that becomes possible again. Take Care and Good Luck.

We cruised to the grottoes, walked on the beautiful beaches and bused to Sagres to see the stunning cliffs and the edge of Europe. A nearby Supermarket made shopping very easy and it was lovely to relax on the balcony with afternoon nibbles and wine. This was a relaxing, easy week and the cafes and restaurants were within a comfortable walking distance.

Read More...This comfortable and very clean apartment right on the Marina had all we needed and more to make our two weeks one of the most enjoyable exchanges we have experienced. So close to everything to see and do in Lagos. Lovely beaches, good restaurants, lovely strolls and a quaint town feeling. Although there's so much within walking distance, there's plenty more to enjoy by taking short drives in this delightful region of Portugal. We were there in December but found the temperature very enjoyable.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Lagos is a delightful small Portuguese town located at the western end of the Algarve. The Marina is across a walking bridge from town with easy access to lots of shops, markets, restaurants and bars. There is a wonderful 3 mile long sandy pristine beach, which is great for swimming when the water is warm enough.. It is a busy tourist town during the hot season in July and August but much quieter the rest of the time. You will get use of the next door hotel pool. A membership can be purchased for the gym and sauna if required.A car is not necessary if you are happy walking around. Local buses will take you to other small towns. The station is very close by and will take you to Faro or Lisbon. The bus station is just across the walking bridge. Bicycles can be rented. Being so far south it is warmer during the shoulder months and better in the winter than most places! Google Lagos, Algarve for loads of information!

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
While it is not necessary to rent a car there are some lovely towns that can be visited if you have transportation. It is also possible to visit some of them on the bus and then take a walk along the cliff tops. Being a tourist town there are many restaurants, bars etc to suit all styles. If you like to eat fish this is the place to be!! A Saturday market held next to the bus station - 5 minutes away - is a great place to pick up your weeks vegetables and also some souvenirs to take home. The original fish market has been renovated and is also interesting to see and purchase the days catch. If you google Lagos you will get all kinds of information on the towns amenities.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
No smoking and no pets please. If you are interested we can give you the web site that we use for rentals so you can see more about the apartment. Since we do not live here but in Canada, we do not have a car. Car rentals can be had very cheaply in the off season and there are many to choose from. It is quite possible to have a good holiday without a car here though as long as you do not mind walking around. The train station and bus station are only 5 minutes away. Faro is the closest airport and the train and bus comes from there. We have a rental company who will give you keys on arrival and help with any questions you may have.
