Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
♡ Oslo is among Lonely Planet's Top 10 Cities to visit in 2018 ♡
Grünerløkka is of the most exciting and interesting neighborhoods in Oslo, and a hub for independent art galleries, cool bars, and trendy restaurants. We live in one of its nicest streets, only 10 min walk from downtown.
Gourmet paradise
Our immediate neighbourhood has many excellent artisanal bakeries, great restaurants and coffee shops including a micro roasters serving the best coffee in Scandinavia. Oslo Food Hall offering high-quality products from Norwegian small-scale producers is only 5 minutes’ walk from our apartment. There are also several grocery stores and supermarkets if you feel like preparing a meal in our kitchen.
Shopping
Grünerløkka has an array of independent stores, where you can find everything from Scandinavian design, to clothing, toys, jewellery, arts and crafts and artisan foods. Sunday is market day in Grünerløkka- Blå Market has unique design products and handicrafts, while Birkelunden Bric-a-brac market is famous for its vintage homewares and collectibles.
Active Lifestyle
The longest river in Oslo, Akerselva, is 2 minutes’ walk from our apartment. If you are a runner or a biker (you may of course borrow our bikes), this is the ideal location for you. The river walk is eight kilometres long, and takes you past forested areas, historical buildings, fishing and swimming spots and waterfalls. You might even spot some salmon in the river! There are also several parks and green areas in the neighbourhood.
Culture and Entertainment
We have close access to Oslo’s jazz scene in Grünerløkka which should not be missed. You may stumble across a Balkan Beat-party at Parkteatret, listen to some African rhythms at Fru Hagen, or drop by Sound of Mu, an art gallery, bar and concert venue. Oslo Opera House is only 20 min walk from our place, and the Design and Architecture Centre and several art galleries just around the corner.
For Kids
There are three parks and numerous playgrounds a few minutes away from our apartment. Grünerløkka’s interactive museum of music celebrates Norway’s tunes and trends and kids will love the recording studios and the chance to have their photo on an album cover. Take a short walk to Oslo Botanical Gardens, try many varieties of hot chocolate at Grünerløkka Cocoa Bar, or have som delicious pizza at Villa Paradiso (with a playroom!)
❀ We will be delighted to help you discover the best of Oslo and surroundings and provide more information and insider’s tips. ❀
