We have a very light and sunny home with views over Wellington from nearly every room. The living areas are open plan and open with french doors onto a sunny deck that overlooks the view. It can be windy in some weathers but wonderfully calm in others. We have two bedrooms upstairs, each with a queen bed. Downstairs is a study/single bedroom and the second bathroom and laundry. The house is up about 50 steps and there is off street parking. The street is a cul-de-sac so it's pretty quiet and we enjoy the sight and sound of tui, grey warblers, kaka and blackbirds and the occasional kingfisher.
Brooklyn sits just above the city and within easy walking distance. We are about a half hour pleasant walk into central Wellington (and there are buses handy too) and there are some good walks and mountain bike tracks accessible from the house. Our village has several cafes, a very popular independent picture theatre, a well reviewed cafe/bistro/bar, as well as a pharmacy, money machine, small convenience stores, liquor store and takeaway shops. By car, the city and waterfront is a 5-10 minute drive and in the other direction it's a 10 min drive to the coast and a lovely drive (or walk) around a rugged coastline and several bays and beaches.
Wellington is a vibrant and very walkable city, with great cafes, museums, theatres, and shopping, a lovely harbour and waterfront, as well as beaches and wild coastal walks. It's also the headquarters of Peter Jackson's movie making with access to Wellywood tours.
We have wooden floors so no stillettos. Our deck is high above the ground and not safe for children; children are welcome but would need to be closely supervised. We also have white sofa covers and would want them looked after.
We are a couple in our 60's and 70's. Stuart is a retired engineer and I work part time as a psychotherapist. We returned about a year ago from living in the UK where we travelled extensively. We're keen to reaquaint ourselves with NZ and Australia in 2017 and 2018. We would like to arrange several exchanges probably in Europe and the UK in 2019, possibly around Aug/Sept/Oct. But we welcome all inquiries and can be exchanging non simultaneously now for our exchanges a year or two or three ahead! We've now done two successful exchanges within NZ and have others set up for Australia, and hope its the beginning of many more.
