Donegal is at the northern end of the island of Ireland - we are in Southern Ireland (a.k.a. Eire / Republic of Ireland) although we are further north than Northern Ireland!!! The Giant's Causeway and the major "Game of Thrones" sites are less than an hour away by ferry. Star Wars - The Last Dedi was filmed locally at Malin Head in Summer 2016.

We live in a very quiet and relaxing neighborhood on a peninsula called Inishowen in green and wild Donegal. The house is less thana mile from the Atlantic Ocean and 3 miles from a beautiful sandy and safe beach. On the Inishowen Peninsula you can enjoy the starting point for the Wild Atlantic Way, the longest coastal scenic drive in the world - while on the peninsula itself you can hike or hill climb, swim in the sea, go sailing, deep sea fishing and freshwater fishing, go horse riding, surfing, hill and rock climbing, cycling, painting and golf.

We are just half a mile from a village called Malin, where there is a hotel, two traditional Irish pubs, a fast-food restaurant, a cafe, a supermarket, a post office, a hairdresser, a beautician and a butcher. We are 3 miles from a small town called Carndonagh with all the facilities you will need including ATMs, banks, large supermarkets, bars, restaurants and a range of takeout options such as Indian, Chinese, fish 'n' chips, etc.

The Nearest City
The historic walled city of Derry / Londonderry (pop. 130,000) is only 20 miles from us, across the border in Northern Ireland. This ancient fortified city has a lot to offer, including department stores, hypermarkets, museums, culture, history, pubs, discos, concert halls, theatre, cinema and restaurants. It was chosen as the first "UK City of Culture" in 2013. Derry was also ranked at number four in Lonely Planet's list of the top places to visit in the world in 2012. City of Derry Airport (LDE) has daily flights to several UK cities such as London, Liverpool and Glasgow.

The Nearest Big City: Belfast (pop. 350,000) is less than a 2 hours drive.

Belfast and The Causeway Coast have just been named as the number one tourist destination in the world for 2018 by Lonely Planet.

The Titanic Centre in Belfast would be worth a stopover if flying into Belfast, it was named best tourist attraction in the world at the World Travel Awards in 2016 - ahead of Machu Picchu, the Taj Mahal and the Egyptian Pyramids! It is now officially the most visited tourist attraction in the world with 5,000 visitors a day - more than the Eiffel Tower or the Empire State Building.

Golf
The Inishowen Peninsula is a real paradise for golfers, with five courses within 20 km of our house. This area was chosen as the European Golf Destination of the Year in 2011. The nearest golf course is Ballyliffin (a short 10 minutes’ drive), it is a 36-hole championship course, considered the best golf club in the world outside of the United States in 2014 by Golf Odyssey.
