Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Our house is situated in Mårslet. A smal village 12 km south of Århus.
From our house you can see wheat fields and farms. The beach is a 10 min drive away and the Vilhelmsborg Wood is even closer.
Aarhus is easily reached by bus or train. By car its a 15-20 min drive.
Aarhus is Denmark’s second city and is often eclipsed by Copenhagen, its cousin across the Kattegat sea. But this big city with a college-town vibe has a thriving art, culture and food scene that is set to expand through 2016. New development along its industrial coastline — including Dokk1, a cultural center and the largest public library in Scandinavia — as well as a light rail expected to open by late summer, is transforming Aarhus into a more accessible cultural capital. Other highlights are ARoS, the gallery known for its “Your Rainbow Panorama” floor with a kaleidoscopic view of the city; the Moesgaard Museum, dedicated to cultural history; a concert hall, home to the Danish National Opera; the “Iceberg,” a striking residential building on the water; and three Michelin-starred restaurants. Gastromé, a short walk from Aarhus’s old city center and canal, highlights new Nordic cuisine sourced from the Vilhelmsborg Forest and surrounding countryside.

Momu - Moesgaard Museum
ARoS, Aarhus’s 10-story art museum where a spectacular circular walking path encased in rainbow-hued glass crowns the roof.
Dokk1, the new home of the city’s public library. Situated on the waterfront, this neo-futuristic heptagonal structure with walls of glass was designed by the Danish architecture firm Schmidt Hammer Lassen.
Godsbanen, a center for cultural production where artists, writers, performers and creative types of every stripe are invited to use the studios, galleries, stages and workshops.
Moesgaard (Momu) The museum chronicles Denmark’s prehistory with collections of Viking-era rune-stones, archaeological artifacts used in sacrificial rituals, and a 2,300-year-old naturally mummified bog body. Outside, the sloping, grass-covered rooftop invites strolling, lounging, picnicking and, in winter, sledding, surrounded by the bucolic Danish countryside.
