Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Our cosy home is on 7 acres, 10 min. from Wolfville, NS, home of Acadia University. 5min. walk to Bay of Fundy, highest tides in the world; close to several wineries, an organic coffee roaster and a malt house. We are within the boundaries of the Landscape of Grand Pre UNESCO World Heritage Site http://www.landscapeofgrandpre.ca/home.html .

This is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home located in the scenic Annapolis Valley. Our comfortable home has wood floors throughout (tile in the bathrooms) and has had many recent upgrades. It has a private backyard with many flowers and a wooden deck that is sunny and warm in the summer. The kitchen-dining room is a large open area with lots of windows and light.
There are large old willow trees on the side of the house that provide a cool, shady haven on hot days. There are lots of windows to open to let the fresh breeze blow through. It is a safe, welcoming landscape that hasn't changed much in the last 200 - 300 years.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Our village is called Hortonville. This is a mixed rural neighbourhood. We are within the boundaries of a Unesco World Heritage site, walking distance of the Grand Pre National Historic Sight, the French Cross and miles of dykes along the mighty Bay of Fundy, the highest tides in the world. It is a one hour drive to Halifax, the largest city east of Montreal and a one hour drive to the beautiful South Shore of NS (Lunenburg, Mahone Bay & Chester). There are so many places to see near-by, and beaches to walk, such as Hall's Harbour, Blue Beach (well-known for its fossils) and lots of fine eating and dining at local wineries and restaurants in the Wolfville area. This is an agricultural area with numerous farm markets and delicious local food. It is also a cultural centre with music in the pubs, live theatre and a wealth of things to see and do. We are within walking distance of an organic coffee brewer (JustUs coffee) and Domain de Grand Pre, a winery and restaurant. We love it here and hope you will enjoy it as well.
Mark & I (Beth) both are retired and our three sons are grown-up and married with children. We have owned several sailboats over the years and have enjoyed sailing on the south shore and around Halifax. The Bay of Fundy is just over the hill from us, but not a boat friendly bay due to the extreme tides. I love to garden and put in a vegetable garden every summer, as well as try to manage the many flowers and fruit that grow on our property. There are swimming beaches within 5 km, on the Bay of Fundy. Fantastic beaches an hour away on the South Shore.
