We are a family of 5, Wouter (44yrs) & Isabel (43yrs) with 3 daughters: Janne (14yrs), Saar (12(yrs) and Lisa (10yrs). We live in a renovated farmhouse in the Belgian countryside. Our garden is spacious, as is the house. Brussels is only a 40min drive away, the medieval city of Ghent is a 20min drive, Bruges is 45min. Our small town has a railway station with convenient connections to just about anywhere in Belgium (and from there to Paris, Amsterdam, London etc). We like to be active and enjoy nature just as much as we like to visit a city. Our hobbies are rowing (Janne), basketball & horseriding (Lisa), ballet and jazz ballet (Saar), mountainbiking, cycling and jogging (Wouter) & horseriding (Isabel).

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Our home is a renovated farmhouse in the countryside. It has a modern look inside and typical country style on the outside. It has all modern amenities. There is view on the garden from the living room and dining area. The house is spacious and has lots of light. We have the sun shining in from sunrise untill sunset! We do not have side neighbours. Our closest neighbours live across the street. Our home is ideal for a family with children that enjoys the combination of citytrips (Brussels at 40min drive, medieval city of Ghent at 25min drive, medieval city of Bruges at 45min drive, walks in the hilly countryside of the Flemish Ardennes (Oudenaarde, Zwalm, Ronse, Geraardsbergen), relax at home at the pool side and just enjoy the good life. The railway station is 10' walk from the house and gives access (via Brussels) to all major European cities: Paris, London, Amsterdam...). There is also an outside play area in the garden with a built in trampoline, a swing and slide. The garden is entirely fenced.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Our town and neighbouring towns have cosy cafés serving coffee and the famous delicious beers. They can be easily reached by car or by bike. If you like to go a bit further, the railway station provides easy access to cities such as Brussels, Ghent, Bruges, Antwerp, Liège,... which are great cities to visit. These cities are also easily accessable via the motorway, which is only at 10' distance from our house.
On a beautiful day, we love to go for a long walk with the dog and end up in one of these cosy cafés to enjoy a lovely meal Belgian style (Steak, fries, pasta's, salads, wine, beer,...). One of the cosy places nearby is the active jenever brewery, that serves coffee and cake, wine and beers. It is filled with nostalgia and run by the owners of the brewery. In the summer time, the whole family pitches in, which makes it a warm place. Another nice place, especially for the children will be the dairy farm (Hoeve 't Alkenveld'), where they sell (a.o.) ice cream, made from the milk of the cows on the farm.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
It is important for us that our house and surrounding, belongings are treated with respect. For us this means the house is well cared for, and most importantly: our pets are well cared for. The bicyles are available for use. We have a (unheated) swimming pool, and is available for your private use. Smoking inside the house is not appreciated, actually, we don't want that :-).
Our dog is an 'Old German Shepard', he's an active outdoors dog. He loves to play, run and walk. If not at all comfortable with a dog, we can arrange to let him stay somewhere else during your stay. Our cats Lily and Eppo are lovely and don't need much care. They get along with anyone who has love and cuddles to offer :-).
