Larry and I are retired and have recently moved to our Ballina house. Previous to that we had a small beef cattle farm in the hills behind Ballina.
We are originally from England, we emigrated in 1967 as a young married couple with a baby.We lived in Sydney for over twenty years with our five children;we then decided we wanted the country life and bought the farm which gave much pleasure to us our children and nine grandchildren.
We have many relatives still in England, and feel we would like to spend time catching up with them, but have the independence of our own space.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Our home is a timber cottage which has been recently renovated with a super brand new kitchen, and lovely big bathroom. There are three double bedrooms, two have french windows. A wooden verandah runs around three sides of the house. There is a small deep swimming pool, and a large covered timber deck where we eat most of our meals all the year round. We have reverse cycle air conditioning and fans in bedrooms. Though we are close to other dwellings, we have complete privacy. The house was built about 100 years ago and has a lot of the original features. It is tucked away from the street in the cool of frangipani and lillipilli trees.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We are on the corner of a very quiet street and laneway. We are one minutes walk to a huge playing ground giving access to cricket, netball, rugby and athletics. Beyond the field is the beautiful river beach where we walk every morning watching the sunrise, the prawn fisherman returning from their night's work, and often dolphins playing. this is safe swimming for children with fine white sand.
Ballina has two surf beaches which are patrolled by life guards. There are many and varied cycle paths, kayaking is very popular and a sailing club down the road caters for smaller sailing boats. There is also a children's waterslide with three swimming pools We are within ten minutes easy walk to the main street in town with library, lots of cafes, chemist and doctor's surgery, pub, supermarket, and many clothes stores etc. A small hospital with an emergency department is ten miutes walk from our hours. Ballina airport has flights to Sydney and Melbourne every day.

Ballina is on the mouth of the Richmond River, so has the advantages of river walks and dog friendly beaches as well surf beaches. Our home is within easy walk of the sailing club, fishing, skate park, cycling paths, water slide and olympic swimming pool. the town has several gyms, many many cafes and restaurants, service clubs, lawn bowls and croquet lawns. there are two shopping centres close by with a cinema.
Byron Bay is thirty minutes drive north with wonderful beaches, shops and night life.
The Gold coast is an hour north and Brisbane is two and a bit hours away. The Gold Coast is known for its theme parks and beaches. wonderful climate and tourist industry.
Leaving the coast , a drive into the hills through the beautiful fertile undulating hills is a treat . Macadamia and small cattle farms dot the country side. Country pubs and cafes are tucked away and well worth a visit, as art galleries antique shops.
The sight of Mount Warning as we drive south, tells us we are nearly home

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
Please leave the house clean and tidy.
Make use of all that has been left for you, but please respect the shut cupboard in the back room where we have put our precious and private things.
Please use the bicycles but the e bike needs a lesson on how to ride, as it can take off in a rush!
There wont be a need to use the dryer unless you need something in a hurry. The lines on the north side of the house dry well.
Our house is old and made of timber, we have up to date smoke alarms, but always be aware of any fire, candles etc.
The window boxes need watering from time to time as do the plants elsewhere if it has been dry. Please could you water the garden.
Please respect our lovely neighbours by not being noisy.
