Hello! We are a Swiss couple living in Winterthur, in the German speaking part of Switzerland. We have been on many home-exchanges in the past, first with our children, then just the two of us and now, we are looking forward to exchange with our new family-member: dog Ari, a 2.5 years old Viszla.
Beatrice (63) works as a teacher for handicapped children and René (66) is an artist and software designer. In July 2021 we have welcomed a new family member: our dog Ari. We love to be in the outdoors with Ari, be it on walks in the nearby woods or on bike rides with him riding along in his little carrier. The two of us also love dancing – especially to swing music and standard styles such as cha cha, fox, rumba or tango.
Our home has been built in 1963. We moved into the place in 2010 and have since had the kitchen, the living room, the bath-rooms and the garden re-done. We love cooking. Our home is nicely situated: you will find a shopping mall in walking distance (5 mins by foot) where you can shop for all your daily groceries. Also close-by are a nice small camping area with a pond, an outdoor mini-golf course as well as some restaurants close by. On top of that you can also go for quick walks or hikes in the forest that starts just a couple of meters behind our home. A public swimming pool with the best view over the town of Winterthur is only 8 minutes by foot away.
Winterthur is a town of about 120 000 inhabitants. It is well known for its famous museums (international collections of art and photographs for example Sammlung Oskar Reinhard am Römerholz, Fotomuseum, Swiss Science Center Technorama). You can reach the historic and medieval inner city in 10 mins (by bike) / 20 mins (on foot). In the large pedestrian area there are a lot of nice cafés, shops and even a farmer’s market that are worth checking out.
You will reach Zürich and its «Bahnhofstrasse» by train in 20 min., Schaffhausen and the biggest waterfall in Europe, the Rheinfall, in 20 min. Other charming towns like Konstanz (Germany), St. Gallen, Lucerne or Berne are also in reaching distance. There are countless possibilities for day-trips to the Swiss alps and the beautiful lakes of Switzerland (www.winterthur-tourismus.ch). In Switzerland, the public transportation system is excellent, there are trains and busses to almost any destination.
Our two adult daughters Ada and Hannah (36 and 33 years old) live and work in Bamberg (Germany) and Zurich.
