We are a family of four -- two moms with with kids age 5 (boy) and 7 (girl). We love to travel and are hoping to become regular home-swappers as a way to travel with our children and give them a window into a more local, authentic way of exploring the world. I am a Civil Rights Lawyer for the US Government and my partner is a professor at Northeastern University. We have lived in Boston for about 7 years, prior to that we studied and lived for many years in California. We love to explore, hike, swim, and eat great food from all over the world. I'd describe us as a relaxed and respectful family -- the kids are very accustomed to travelling and spending time in new places! One of us is allergic to cats and dogs, so unfortunately we cannot swap homes where cats live, and with dogs it depends.

Beschreibung unseres Tauschangebotes
We live in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood in Boston -- a great walkable part of the city of Boston with parks, playgrounds, restaurants/cafes, and train stops close by. The neighborhood is charming and vibrant! Our condominium is on the second floor of a "triple decker" -- the classic architectural style for this area with three families living in a building, usually one family per floor. Our building is new -- built in 2015 and we are the first and only owners of our unit. It is about 1,200 square feet -- with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, plus a reading room/office attached to the parents bedroom that is being newly constructed right now. The kids room is set up for our 7 year old (normal singe size loft bed) and 5 year old (smaller toddler bed). We also have an extra room with a regular single bed that can pull out into a king bed if necessary. Plenty of toys and games for children, and games for adults too! Lots of windows and sunlight throughout the unit. Dining room table comfortably sits 4-6 people, with space at kitchen counter for 2 barstools. Sunny private deck out back equipped with grill and table for 6 in the summer where we often enjoy breakfast and dinner when the weather is good! If you have questions about any part of our home or would like to see more photos, just let me know!

Beschreibung unserer Nachbarschaft und Gegend
Our neighborhood is just great for families and we love it here! You'll find it quiet but friendly, and we generally walk to many of the places we go. There are four playgrounds in walking distance that we have enjoyed with our kids since they were babies, a nice bike path that takes you (without much road riding) to other great neighborhoods such as the South End and Brookline. I use it to bike downtown to work every day. Although the neighborhood is mostly residential and not as densely populated with restaurants as the city center -- there is an amazing bakery and yoga studio at the end of our street, a hip brewery close by, some of our favorite restaurants are in walking distance, and we are about one mile to the neighborhood center (which is different than the "city center") with more shops, restaurants, ice cream parlors, and cafes. The Arnold Arboretum is an easy walk, as are two train stations to get you anywhere you want to go!

Boston has so much to offer -- it is the heart of Colonial America with so much history to explore in the charming city, and also access to great beaches in the summertime. Learn about Boston's revolutionary history on a walking tour (https://www.therevolutionarystorytour.com/), go to the Boston Tea Party Museum and learn about an event that was central to American Independence (https://www.bostonteapartyship.com/), or spend time in the oldest public park in the United States, Boston Common (https://www.thefreedomtrail.org/trail-sites/boston-common). No shortage of museums in Boston: our favorites are the world-famous Boston Children's Museum (https://bostonchildrensmuseum.org/) and the Institute of Contemporary Art (https://www.icaboston.org/). When you are done with the city sights, spend time like a local and head out to one of the beautiful east coast beaches. Our favorite day trips for beaches are: Crane Beach in Ipswich (https://thetrustees.org/place/crane-beach-on-the-crane-estate/), Plum Island in Newburyport (https://www.newburyport.com/plum-island-beach/), and Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester (https://northofboston.org/listings/wingaersheek-beach/).
All of the links provided below are for attractions in our neighborhood -- mostly in walking distance to our home -- and are places that we love! City bike rentals available by the hour at several places nearby. Of course there are many, many more places to explore throughout other neighborhoods in Boston, and are happy to provide enough recommendations to keep you busy for your entire trip here!

Was wir mögen und was nicht… Dies sind unsere Wünsche und Hausregeln.
It is important for us to find our house need and tidy when we return -- pretty much as you found it when you arrived. We don't wear shoes in the house, please do the same.
We are a friendly family and we have great relationships with our neighbors (3 families even travelled together to Mexcio this past year!). So please be respectful of our neighbors also -- no loud parties or music that would seem unreasonable to neighbors, and absolutely no smoking anything. We will happily treat your place with the same respect and care!
