This part of Sweden has many antique markets and thrift shops (look for the sign "loppis", flea market). It's easy to find antiques and collector items at good prices, especially if you love scandinavian design.

Åmål, Ed and Bengtsfors are cute little towns with shopping possibilities and cultural activities. Baldersnäs is a beautiful mansion where you can take walks, watch handicraft being made and eat at the restaurant. We also recommend a visit to Dals Rostock, a beautiful little village with a toy museum, a herbal garden, an artist studio and shop plus a mini train station where kids can borrow a key and go in for free. Fengersfors is also a very nice little town, with an artist collective running shops, workshops, a restaurant and a café.

The surroundings are very beautiful, with several nature reserves within walking and biking distance. Ôsan nature reserve gives bathing possibilities, with a clean and cosy sand beach. Höljerudsforsarna nature reserve is a path that runs from Billingsfors to Bengtsfors, it winds past water falls and canal locks, back and forth over the canal Dalslands kanal. Between June 24th and August 10th there is even a channel boat that takes you down to Håverud, a great boat ride with a train that takes you back to Billingsfors. The park in front of the main Billingsfors factory mansion can be used for picknicks and beaver and deer spotting.
