Where to start? The surroundings of Vörstetten are full of a great variety of things to see and do.

Of course, Freiburg is the closest destination if you want urban life: shopping, restaurants, museums, cinemas, theater, concert hall, clubs to spend the evening. Historic buildings including the cathedral with the 'most beautiful spire of christianity' as people say or the historic merchants house. Or take a guided tour on the old cemetery, listening to birds and the stories of poets, love and murder passed down to us over centuries. In addition, you've got much more of that in reach: Basel in Switzerland or Straßburg in France also are not far away. A lot of smaller towns and villages wait for discovery: Colmar, Neuf Brisach, Breisach, Mulhouse,...

Vörstetten as well as Freiburg are located on the outskirts of the Black Forest. So if you want to go hiking or take a trip on the bicycle, you may start from the spot or only have to take a short trip to find one of the attractive paths through woodlands and meadows. We went on a (very successful) mushroom foray on the castle hill of Freiburg max. 30 minutes walk away from the city center one day. The Black Forest offers a big variety of outdoor activities: from an easy walk to sporty hiking, mountainbiking, climbing or mountainbiking. Beautiful walks are possible also in the Kaiserstuhl (Emperors seat), a former volcano situated in the rhine lowlands. The nature there is more mediterranean, you may see green lizards and bee-eater birds along the way. If you're stepping off the path in spring or early summer, be cautious not to tread on the orchids. A lot of villages surrounded by vineyards invite you to taste the renowned wines of this special spot after you've taken a walk in the lily valley arboretum or through the vineyards.

If the weather gets hot, you may visit one of the outdoor baths or one of the numerous quarry ponds in the vicinity. If it gets cold, you may take a trip to Keidel bath or Bad Krozingen to immerse yourself in thermal water. A little lake even is in walking distance from our house.

A big number of day-trips is avaliable: the renowned leisure park Europapark with a lot of attractions, the Black Forest open-air museum Vogtsbauernhof, the highest peak in the Black Forest Feldberg with a spectacular view on the alps (when there's clear sight). Or maybe visit the qarry Grube Clara in Wolfach to hunt for minerals. Or take a trip to lake Constance. And so on...
