We are a family of four. John (dad), Emma (mum), Thomas (11yrs) and Rachel (10yrs). We like to lead an active lifestyle and love the outdoors. We have been living here for 12 years and love the area. Both parents work in Tralee and our kids go to school nearby. John works in IT services and Emma is a psychologist with children's services. We are eager to explore new places with our kids and hope that other families will enjoy our home and area as much as we do. We also have 2 outdoor cats (Gin and Tabs) and 2 chickens (Matilda and Red) that may need minimal care while we are exchanging.

Beschreibung unserer Nachbarschaft und Gegend
We live in a quiet cul de sac of just ten houses, at the foot of the Sliabh Mish Mountain range. There are lovely views to the mountains and the sea at Tralee Bay. A short 3km drive will bring you to our nearest village, Blennerville with its distinctive windmill, a service station with convenience shop and small cafe, a pub, and school. The busy town of Tralee is just 6kms away. Here you will find more extensive shopping, supermarkets, town park, museum, swimming pools, cinema, and a good choice of cafes and restaurants. We are at the gateway to the Dingle peninsula. Travelling further west along the peninsula you will find many beautiful expansive beaches, quiet villages, the vibrant town of Dingle, historical sites of interest and spectacular mountain scenery. You will be in the right place if you are looking for a holiday filled with fresh Atlantic air in beautiful scenery, outdoor pursuits such as walking, hiking, surfing, cycling, with quality food and Irish culture! There's something for everyone.

Out home is on the Wild Atlantic Way (coast road) at the beginning of the very popular Dingle Peninsula. We are a five minute drive from a quiet, unspoilt beach (Derrymore). There are many more beaches along the coast within 20 minutes, some sheltered and others more exposed to the Atlantic coast. These beaches offer brilliant opportunities for surfing, windsurfing and scuba diving and there are Watersports centres twenty minutes drive away. Some of Ireland's best golf links courses are also in the area. A five minute drive from our house will bring you to Blennerville village where you'll find Ireland's only working traditional windmill and a lovely walkway along the canal bank out to the coast. Another path will lead you East to Tralee town where you can take a break at the busy Wetlands Cafe for brunch, lunch or just a coffee and cake, overlooking the lake with pedalboats, zorbing, climbing wall, and playground. Nearby is the Aquadome indoor waterworld for a family swim time. Then stroll further into Tralee town park, visit the Kerry museum, take a look around the shops in the town centre or Manor West Retail Park. Finish your day with a delicious dinner in Chez Christophe's, the StoneHouse, Bella Bia, Benner's Hotel or Spa Seafoods. Take an evening stroll along one of many beaches at Banna, Fenit, Derrymore, Camp, Inch or miles of sand at Brandon Bay.
Day trips a little further afield west can bring you to Dingle town, the Dingle Way walking route, and Slea Head Drive. To the north you can visit Listowel heritage town, Ballybunion by the sea, Tarbert with a car ferry to get you to County Clare, and Foynes which has a 'Flying Boat Museum'. To the south is beautiful Killarney town on the edge of the extensive National Park (for walking or cycling), with Muckross House and Ross Castle not to be missed. Killarney is part of the ring of Kerry, so head around the ring from here, passing Kenmare, Waterville, Caherciveen and Killorglin towns with spectacular scenery along the way. The spectacular Skellig Michael island (as seen in Star Wars) is well worth a visit by boat. For star gazers, South Kerry an Gold Tier Dark Sky Reserve due to the lack of light pollution in the area , meaning you see the star constellations and planets as they were seen by your ancestors. For hikers, the "Dingle Way" hiking trail is easily accessible from our home on the foothills of the Slibh Mish mountains. A number of Ireland's highest peaks are in the area with spectacular scenery.
