Bamberg is in the region of Bavaria, a UNESCO World Heritage site on the edge of "Little Switzerland" (25 km). Our town Bamberg counts 70,000 inhabitants. It lies 60 km north of Nuremberg, 70 km west of Bayreuth (Wagner music festival), 80 km east of Würzburg (art and wine) and 45 km south of Coburg (home to Prince Albert, former British Queen Victoria's husband). Bamberg offers to visitors all kinds of amenities: one of Germany's most beautiful old towns full of architecture from the 12th century to our time, a symphonic orchestra in an impressive concert hall, romantic summer concerts in the Rose Garden and symphonic or modern music concerts in front of our cathedral (13th c.). Bamberg is also home to the ETA Hoffmann Theatre Group, one of Germany's oldest performing in various places.
There are present-day and historical markets, summer courses organized by the University of Bamberg, a jazz club, and a lot of places with live music. Bamberg's official tourist office (Tourist und Kongress Service) welcomes numerous tourists from all over the world and invites them to join the many different theme walks through our town. Bamberg is proud to count 9 (!) different breweries within its quarters, a paradise for those who enjoy a glass of beer, "Smoked Beer" being most famous. Those who also enjoy good food will find it very hard to lose weight: there are a lot of excellent restaurants (most of them at quite reasonable price), and the lovely beer gardens, some of which offer not only beer and food, but also a magnificent view over the numerous medieval and baroque towers, steeples and roofs of Bamberg.
