Bolig

Beskrivelse af vores byttebolig

We are interested in an exchange of about 10 - 20 days within Europe for May, June or July 2020.
and UK exchanges anytime.

Our home is on rising ground to the east of the town so we have a great view of the church. It is a 10-15 minute walk into town, including a 5-minute energetic climb. For anyone preferring not to walk there are town centre car parks and also a town bus service. We live at the head of a cul-de-sac of established houses. Although there are lots of houses close together we are quite private and not overlooked. The cul-de-sac does get congested with parked cars at times but there is plenty of room on our drive. All the rooms are of a good size. Downstairs there is a spacious lounge and a good-sized kitchen which opens into a dining area and small sun room. Upstairs are master bedroom with en-suite and another bedroom with family bathroom. We lock the 3rd bedroom during exchanges. We have a very interesting garden on various levels.

Beskrivelse af omegn

Ludlow is one of the most attractive market towns in England, set on a spur above a bend in the river Teme. As well as the castle and iconic parish church, it has a larger proportion of old buildings than almost anywhere in the UK. This is an excellent area for walking in the rolling countryside, the Shropshire Hills 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' incorporating the Long Mynd. The town still has lots of independent shops and Ludlow is famous for its food: shops, restaurants and a huge food festival in September. There is also much of interest for lovers of history, the castle having been a home of Roger Mortimer ('The Greatest Traitor'), Richard of York, Edward IV and his sons Edward V and Richard (the princes in the tower), Richard III and Prince Arthur (the older brother of Henry VIII) whose heart is buried in the church.

Vores lokale tips for muligheder, steder at besøge, mens du er i vor bolig

Ludlow is a beautiful town with a castle dating from 1090. It was the home of the Council set up to help the Prince of Wales rule Wales and the Welsh Borders, which was in existence from around 1465 for 200 years. It is where Prince Arthur died shortly after his marriage to Katherine of Aragon, aged 15, leaving his younger brother to succeed to the throne as Henry VIII. St Laurence's is the largest parish church in Shropshire and is very beautiful. Originally built in 1199, much of the present building dates from around 1450 when it was largely rebuilt in Perpendicular Gothic. It retains much of its ancient glass from that time and contains a number of impressive tombs of members of the Council of the Marches. It is also famous for the wood carving on its 'misericords' in the chancel.

Ludlow was a 'New Town' which grew up around the castle in the 11th century. It has a planned layout with more listed buildings for its size than anywhere else in the UK. You can still see the original 'burgage plots'.
