Bolig

Beskrivelse af vores byttebolig

Our home is just metres from Bloor St. West and a 20-minute subway ride from downtown Toronto (a 5-minute walk to the subway station).

A short bike ride takes you to High Park and the lake shore, where you'll find beaches, the boardwalk, a 60-km bike trail, and lots of playgrounds. Or you can hit the Humber River and its system of bike/running paths and parks.

You'll be close to all major highways:
- 5 minutes to the Gardiner Expressway (downtown Toronto, the eastern Beaches)
- 5 minutes to the QEW (Niagara, U.S. border)
- 15 minutes to the 401 (part of the Trans-Canada highway, taking you east to Montreal and Ottawa, our capital)
- 15 minutes to the 427 highway (Toronto Pearson Airport)
- 15 minutes to the 400 highway (Muskoka, cottage country)

Our house is a beautiful blend of old and new, spacious and cozy, with great character both inside and out. Built around 1905 by two Scottish brothers who went on to build many of the houses in the historic village of Swansea, the house stayed in that family for more than 100 years, until we bought it a few years ago. We renovated the kitchen and added some modern touches, but the character of the house is unchanged.

One of our favourite parts is the breezy sunroom/office that looks out onto the street, which is, in our humble estimation, the best in the area. You will find friendly, welcoming neighbours and loads of future pen-pals for the kids.

Main floor:
- Spacious living room with 55" 4K TV, Netflix and basic cable package, Blu-Ray, surround stereo with ChromeCast, turntable, piano, guitar, and loads of books and board games
- Bright, spacious kitchen with gas range and walk-out to the garden
- Powder room
- Large closet near the kitchen, small closet near the front door
- Washer/dryer

2nd floor:
- Full bathroom (bath & shower)
- Bedroom 1 - queen bed, ceiling fan
- Bedroom 2 - kid's room with single bed, ceiling fan & toys
- Bedroom 3 - single futon, 32" TV with ChromeCast & full cable package, electric guitar with amp
- Sunroom/office - iMac desktop, printer, desk

3rd floor:
- Bedroom 4, kid's room with single bed
- Play room (toys, karaoke machine)

Back garden:
- Patio w/table & umbrella, propane grill, swing set with slide, rear parking space

Front garden:
- Short-term front parking pad, enclosed stone porch

Other stuff:
- 2 adult bikes/helmets + 2 smaller bikes/helmets
- Hockey net with sticks, variety of balls, gloves, etc.
- Inflatable mattress with frame (included in sleeping capacity)

Beskrivelse af omegn

A short stretch of Bloor St West has everything you need: banks, cafes, yoga studios, fine dining, pubs, bakeries, salons, a liquor store, health and gourmet food shops, even a pretty decent cigar shop. You can find lots of authentic Eastern European delights, a craft-beer-lover's pub, and a fantastic nuevo Latino restaurant that serves great food and an even better Pisco Sour.

A 5-minute walk gets you to Runnymede subway station, which will get you to pretty much everything Toronto has to offer. (That’s too much to list here, but happy to make recommendations!)

Nearby High Park is Toronto's biggest public park, and offers public swimming, tennis courts, a zoo, fishing and hiking, and in the summer, critically acclaimed performances of Shakespeare In The Park.

The area is a runner's paradise, with several scenic paths along Lake Ontario (2 km away) or the Humber River (1 km away), or more challenging runs inside High Park (900 m away).

A 5-minute bike ride brings you to the Humber, or the beaches and parks along the lake. There you can pick up the Martin Goodman bike path, a must-do for cyclists. It stretches along Lake Ontario for some 60 km from the eastern beaches, west to the Humber River and beyond. It's also a great way to get downtown, to the Rogers Centre for Blue Jays games or BMO Field for soccer and football games.

There's also a free and fantastic outdoor mountain-bike course just a short ride away. Jumps, half-pipes, and other challenging courses for the daredevils in the family.

Swansea was the last independent village to be annexed by Toronto in 1967 and part of Bloor West Village. It's a very family oriented area, with lots to do for kids and adults both.

Vores lokale tips for muligheder, steder at besøge, mens du er i vor bolig

High Park and Lake Ontario are both about a 20-minute walk or a 10-minute bike ride from our home. Our home is a 5-minute walk to the nearest subway station, which will get you downtown in about 30 minutes. There you'll find the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Royal Ontario Museum, loads of concert venues and nightclubs, and the main sports venues (Rogers Centre domed stadium for the Toronto Blue Jays, Scotiabank Arena for the Toronto Maple Leafs, BMO Field for TFC soccer.)

Hvad kan vi lide eller ikke lide. Her er vores ønsker og boligregler

We ask only that things be kept in relative order. And enjoy yourselves.

We have two cats, Finn and Millie. They'd probably prefer to stay in their home while we're away, but other arrangements can be made. They're shy at first, but Finn is a friendly little guy when he comes out of his shell. Millie prefers to keep to herself, but even she can be coaxed out if a head scratch is on offer.
