We are now searching for an exchange (final week of September through to October half term 2021) flexible with location but we would love to visit Scotland again.
Melbourne enjoys a microclimate and warm Autumns.
Looking forward into a ‘post pandemic’ life into 2022, and subject to any further travel restrictions, we would ideally like to do a month long swap with a town/city in Europe as well as long weekend/week swaps within the UK.
OUR MODERN HOUSE
Is in a quiet hamlet, a few minutes walk from the Georgian Town of Melbourne
You will find it is a central base for those who enjoy exploring and would like to discover Middle England.
Although we do have a bus service to Derby, to get the most out of your stay we recommend you bring a car for which there is plenty of room
Suitable for families and adults, we have two double bedded rooms and a generous sized single bedded room in a light, airy and well appointed modern home.
Both gardens have space for sitting out, a lawn and a children’s playground is in sight of the house and front garden.
Melbourne is 15 minutes walk away or 3 minutes by car. This small town of 5,000 people has a bustling Georgian centre with a variety of everyday shops including: cafes, restaurants, butcher; bakery, post office and small supermarket.
Close by is the famous Melbourne Hall home of Queen Victoria’s favoured Prime Minister Lord Melbourne and the stately home, Calke Abbey, home of the eccentric Harpur Crewe family, their estate is wonderful for walking and a bus stops near the front gate.
There are footpaths including an old railway line to Derby (7 miles) and in the other direction towards North West Leicestershire.
Seven miles away is Ashby-de-la-Zouch (larger shops; more cafes, delicatessen, larger supermarkets; castle and swimming pools; indoor & outdoor)
Surrounded by the beautiful countryside of Derbyshire we are only 10 minutes from East Midlands Airport.
Further afield in Derbyshire is Chatsworth House probably the most stunning stately home in England, the town of Ashbourne (45 minutes) on the edge of Derbyshire dales. For urban exploration there is the city of Derby (20 minutes) and we are 40 minutes from Nottingham and 45 minutes from Leicester, Birmingham is the second most populous city in England and is 1 hour away.
All are excellent locations for culture and discovery.
Other easy day trips are to Oxford; Cambridge; Stratford upon Avon and London (only 90 minutes by train).
The train link from East Midlands Parkway takes you directly to London St Pancras where you can take the Eurostar.
