You can go on rural walks from the house around the unique landscape of the Somerset Levels a huge area of wetland which was once covered by the sea. You will be reliant on a car to visit most places beyond as unfortunately we don't have any public transport to the village. Whilst we don't have the dedicated cycle infrastructure of other countries there are lots of flat country lanes to cycle along and explore the surrounding countryside (we have two adult fold up bikes and one 18" wheel bike approx age 6+). We also enjoy local simple activities such as town trails around Langport and Somerton and doing https://www.treasuretrails.co.uk/ around local towns and strolls around nearby villages.

Within a short drive you can reach hills such as Glastonbury Tor (30 mins) which rise up from the Levels to give magnificent far reaching views. All around are important important bird and wildlife habitats with a network of rivers and rhynes. Locally you'll find cider farms, willow craft centres, National Trust properties and other historic buildings to visit. Within 30-40 mins drive you can reach any of five different Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty: Quantock Hills, Blackdown Hills, Mendip Hills, Dorset, and Cranborne Chase and also the picturesque City of Wells and Sherborne town.

For families in particular we'd recommend the amazing Fleet Air Arm Museum (12 mins), Somerset Rural Life Museum (25 mins), Ham Hill (16 mins) and Yeovil Country Parks (25 mins), Haynes Motor Museum (18 mins). Some bigger fun parks further afield are Crealy (1 hr), Brean Splash (50 mins) and Puxton Park (50 mins). Longleat Safari Park (45 mins) is popular. There are activity centres for horse trekking and canoeing/kayaking. The Mendip Activity Centre (1hr) has lots of fun activities including caving, archery and tobogganing. The West Somerset Railway (45 mins) is a nice long ride all the way to Minehead seaside town. There is a soft play centre in Somerton and a horse welfare centre within 10 minutes drive.

In about an hour you can drive to Exmoor National Park, attractions such as Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole, the Somerset coast (Watchet/Minehead/Weston-super-Mare), Dorset's coast (Jurassic coast, Lyme Regis, West Bay, Weymouth, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door). Stonehenge World Heritage Site is an hour away by car (you may well pass it on your journey to our house).

The cities of Bristol, Bath and Exeter are reachable for day trips and we provide information on how to get there. Oxford is 2 hours drive away. Laura used to live/work in Oxford for nearly 20 years so can offer lots of practical advice. London is possible too but it would be a long day! If you did decide to stay over somewhere and were looking after our cat we can arrange for Sean's parents to feed the cat whilst you are away.
